Informatics British Collaborator gets Top Rank

Keele University UK, which is currently offering its MSc in IT, right here in Sri Lanka, has been ranked at 31 among all British Universities (over 100 universities sampled) by “The good university guide”, of Times UK, probably the most respected and widely used ranking system for British Universities. Sri Lankan students today get the rare opportunity of following Keele University’s MSc in IT in its totality, at the Postgraduate Centre of IIT, located at 143, Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 07, on a part-time basis, without leaving the country.

The MSc, which is just starting its 5th intake in Sri Lanka, is special in many ways. Students who follow the MSc at IIT gets the identical degree that a Keele Student will get and have the option of attending the Keele graduation at the end of the programme.

Another unique feature of the MSc is that working professionals who do not have a degree but have more than five years of IT industry experience, are also eligible to apply for admission to the MSc based on Professional qualifications and industry performance. This is a very good opportunity for IT specialists who do not have undergraduate degrees to get a top class British Postgraduate Degree.

Also, if a student wishes to do a part of the MSc at Keele, he/she is able to do that too by following some modules at IIT and others at Keele. The MSc pogramme, which started in 2000 has become very popular with Sri Lankan professionals with a number of top IT personal in the country being its beneficiaries.

The programme at IIT gives a totally equivalent learning experience to a Sri Lankan student as that what al Keele student will get in UK. An endorsement of this fact was provided when the 2001 Quality Audit of the programme by Keele QA auditors, returned an observation of “exemplary” for the IIT programme.

It is indeed rare for a Sri Lankan student to get an opportunity to read for a degree of a British University, which is ranked around the top 25% in Britain without leaving the country. The collaboration with Keele University provides just that.
