Informatics Information Systems (Pvt) Ltd awarded the first pilot project ‘Empowering the WorkPlace’ of the e-Sri Lanka road map
August 2004 - The first World Bank funded pilot project of the e- Sri Lanka road map initiated by the Government of Sri Lanka, was awarded by the (ICTA) of Sri Lanka to Informatics. The e-Sri Lanka concept envisages using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to develop the economy of Sri Lanka, reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of the people.
The objective of the programme is to enhance the Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills of all public sector employees in the District and Divisional Sectors of Sri Lanka and help them enhance the productivity of their day-to-day activities using these skills and provide a more efficient service to the public.
Empowering the workplace- the methodology
The staff from the District and 11 Divisional Secretariat offices in the Matale District was given training in Information and Communication Technology Skills using modern and interesting delivery methods suited for inspiring the workforce. This training was conducted at a newly equipped Computer Laboratory with 50 computers and all other up to date facilities.
The staff officers were given 30 hours of training and non-staff officers 48 hours of training. The training program was completed during a 4-month period. A program for development of projects followed the training. These projects directly relate to automating their day-to-day activities using Microsoft Office programs. The projects developed were installed at their respective offices using computers re-located from the training laboratory wherever computers were not available.
The trainees also participated in workshops on professional development, conducted by experts in the industry in order to strengthen their abilities and fit into the new automated office environment.
