Sun Insurance launches new software from Informatics

Fiji, 4th February 2006 - Sun Insurance Company has been hailed as an example of the success that can be achieved in Fiji today. Speaking at the launching of new computer software by Sun Insurance this week, Qarase said Sun Insurance was proof that local business people can be of success.

That is if they are alert to the opportunities and ready to respond to the needs of the market.

About seven years ago a small group of experienced Fiji investors took over the operations of National MBF Insurance, and founded a new company called Sun Insurance.

Today, it is one of Fiji’s leading property and casualty insurers, and our largest locally-owned general insurance company.

Qarase said Sun is representative of a new generation of insurance companies, customer-focused and run along modern lines.

"Among its investments is a retail and commercial complex at Valelevu, built at a cost of $2-million," said Qarase.

"I commend the company’s principals on their original vision, and on their commitment to realising their dream."

Qarase said there were a number of reasons why Sun Insurance was successful, and high among these was professionalism.

"This is also a company that keeps abreast of developments, and will take on board new ways of doing things, where there are good reasons for doing so," he said.

Sun commissioned a state-of-the-art computer software, representing a further investment of about $ 1 million.

Qarase mentioned that in his Government the IT sector has been identified as an area for growth and the creation of new jobs.

"We have policies and incentives to achieve this. The latest measures were announced in the 2006 Budget," he said.

Similarly, Qarase said, companies seeking to sharpen their competitive edge will increasingly look to computer technology to help provide it.
