Local insurance firm hones IT solution from Informatics

Fiji, 4th February 2006 - THE country's largest locally-owned insurance company has invested in a new state-of-the-art information technology software system that is expected to boost its revenue by $1million. Sun Insurance Company Ltd chairman, Padam Lala said to ensure better customer service, statutory compliance, good corporate governance and financial planning, it was crucial that all data was captured accurately and available on demand.

Hence, the need for a new IT software system which will help staff achieve the company's goals.

While commissioning the new IT software system at Sun Insurance on Thursday night, Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase said this was an example of what local businesses could achieve if they stayed alert to opportunities and responded to the needs of the market.

"Sun is a representative of a new generation of insurance companies, customer focused and run along the modern lines.

The company may have its headquarters in one of Suva's historic buildings, but its mindset is very much of today," he said.

Mr. Qarase said Sun Insurance always kept abreast of new developments and took on board innovative ways of doing things, which was its major reasons for success.

The new IT software is manufactured by Informatics (PVT) Ltd, the largest software house in Sri Lanka.

It has been engaged in software exports since the late 1980s.

The company's procedures and practices are ISO 9001 certified and assessed at Level 4 of the compatibility maturity of the Software Engineering Institute.

Informatics has conducted various IT software businesses in the Pacific region in the area of mostly telecommunications previously.

Insurance is the first for the region.

Mr Qarase said IT was an area that the Government had identified as an area for growth and the creation of new jobs.

He hoped companies seeking to sharpen their competitive edge would increasingly look to computer technology to help provide that edge.
