Year 2008 is a significant milestone for one of Sri Lanka’s pioneering IT giants. On May 31st 2008 Informatics (Pvt) Ltd the parent company of the Informatics Group completes 25 years of service to the industry.
Informatics was established in 1983 with a mission to be a leading Systems Integrator providing quality innovative IT solutions to its customers. The company’s record of successes in the IT industry in Sri Lanka is overwhelming. With a varied clientele ranging from Government Institutions, state and private sector Banks and other private sector establishments of varying sizes, Informatics have provided quality solutions that have far exceeded customer expectations over the years.
IT solutions provided have covered diverse vertical market segments such as banking and finance, e-governance solutions, hotel, retail, customer care and billing, insurance, trade and manufacturing to name a few.
In the Banking and Finance sector, Informatics has provided front-end & back office solutions to over 350 private and public bank branches and installed over 700 Automated Teller Machines throughout the island thus making Informatics the market leaders in bank branch automation in Sri Lanka. Informatics has also achieved unparalleled success in the implementation of e-Government solutions in Sri Lanka.
Informatics has diversified and grown in stature. It has now several companies engaged in varied fields of information technology and ventured into agriculture as well to fulfil their corporate social responsibility
Today Informatics has developed as a group that specializes and provides key services in the areas of Software Development, Joint–Venture partnership for off-shore software development. With development process benchmarked on ISO 9001:2000 and CMM Level 4 certification, we have set upon ourselves to continuously maintain a high value in our services and offerings, we as a group are focusing on the challenging and ever-changing business landscape ahead.

About the Informatics Group of Companies
Informatics International Ltd. established in the year 2000, is the most recent arm of the Informatics Group. IIL, with 250+ IT professionals, provides software solutions for Telecom, Insurance, Border control and banking sectors and has a global reach with projects in 15+ countries. IIL was awarded ISO 9001 accreditation from Det Norkse Veritas (DNV) of Netherlands directly, and CMM Level 4 certification from Carnegie Melon University, confirming IIL as a quality software development house.
Informatics Institute of Technology was established in 1990 and is the pioneer tertiary education institution providing qualified professionals in the IT sector in particular. IIT has done this in collaboration with leading universities in UK, namely the Manchester Metropolitan University, and the Keele University. IIT has produced over 1500 graduate and postgraduate professionals who have made a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of the country. Many of the graduates have obtained employment in premier private sector establishments. Some have ventured to set up their own IT companies, creating considerable knowledge based employment opportunities. A large number of the alumni are employed overseas earning valuable foreign exchange for the country.
IIT is now collaborating with the University of Westminster, London and the University of Keele, to offer their undergraduate and postgraduate programs (BSc, MSc, PhD) in IT and Business to meet identified national needs.
It is worthwhile mentioning another pioneering effort of IIT. IIT is the first and only institution to offer scholarships to deserving students from outstations to follow undergraduate courses. Over 400 have benefited from this program.
Informatics Information Systems (PVT) Ltd. was established in 1998 to complement the work of IIT, to provide IT training to children, schools, the public and private sector, and is one of the leaders in this field as well. Thousands of children have benefited from this program
Visual Computing Systems (PVT) Ltd was established in 1991 to complement the work done by IPL and is now the market leader in providing tools for the entertainment industry. VCS is also the first level representative of Hewlett Packard products in Sri Lanka.
Informatics Agrotech (Pvt) Ltd. Another feather in the pioneering efforts of the Informatics Group quite apart from IT and IT education is their 1000-acre farm at Dehiattakandiya in Mahaweli System C. Whilst battling the harsh arid climate and frequent incursions by elephants and other wild animals, the farm has cashew, coconut, teak, mahogany and crops such as bananas, plantains and pineapple cultivated using the latest technologies in agriculture, It also has a flourishing dairy.
